Tirtoff, Romain De, Erté. La Tosca. Romain de Tirtoff, who went by his pseudonymn Erté for some 75 years is considered the father of Art Deco. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia he moved to Paris to pursue design and graphic arts and in short order landed his first contract with Harper's Bazaar. That exposure led to spectacular and opulent stage collaborations with Florenz Zeigfeld, opera, dance and finally Hollywood. In the 1960s with the revival of Art Deco, Erté enjoyed a late career revival in his graphic arts, and sculpture that continues today. Offered is his sculpture "La Tosca" # 214 from an edition of 500 boasting an elegant line with beautiful detail. Beautiful condition.
