Tirtoff, Romain de, Erté. Hera and Zeus. Romain de Tirtoff, who went by his pseudonymn Erté for some 75 years is considered the father of Art Deco. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia he moved to Paris to pursue design and graphic arts and in short order landed his first contract with Harper's Bazaar.
