Tirtoff, Romain De, Erté. Femmes de Luxe. Romain de Tirtoff, who went by his pseudonymn Erté for some 75 years is considered the father of Art Deco. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia he moved to Paris to pursue design and graphic arts and in short order landed his first contract with Harper's Bazaar. That exposure led to spectacular and opulent stage collaborations with Florenz Ziegfeld, opera, dance and finally Hollywood. In the 1960s with the revival of Art Deco, Erté enjoyed a late career revival in his graphic arts, and sculpture that continues today. Offered is one of Erté's most dramatic sculptures, "Femme de Luxe" boasting a fantastic and elaborate robe detailed with dancing flames, dramatically trailing and pooling behind. #281 of a limited edition of 500
piece measures 18½" x 12½" x 7" and is in overall very fine condition with only the most minimum evidence of handling. Lovely.
