Binder, Erwin. The Lovers. Erwin Binder (1934-1993), a veteran of the United States Air Force, learned to cast metal and work with stone as an employee at his family's jewelry business. Wanting to develop these skills further, he enrolled at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and subsequently produced numerous monumental public sculptures throughout Southern California in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also deeply influenced by Mexican culture, most notably the surreal portrait work of José Clemente Orozco. Offered is "The Lovers" a remarkable sculpture evoking the sculptor, his wife, and their son, signed by the artist, dated 1981, edition #2/9 and of bronze mounted on marble base. Measuring 32" x 13" x 13" with base and weighing approximately 38 pounds. Buyer responsible for shipping. In excellent condition.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 4,000.
