Binder, Erwin. Transcendence of Man. Erwin Binder (1934-1993), a veteran of the United States Air Force, learned to cast metal and work with stone as an employee at his family's jewelry business. Wanting to develop these skills further, he enrolled at the Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles and subsequently produced numerous monumental public sculptures throughout Southern California in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also deeply influenced by Mexican culture, most notably the surreal portrait work of José Clemente Orozco. Offered here is a signed and dated sculpture released in 1978, #2 of an edition of 10 called "Transcedence of Man" measuring 17" tall including the square marble base. Sculpture is in superior condition and quite striking. 24 pounds. Buyer responsible for shipping. In excellent condition.
