Lot 51

1797 C-2 R3 Centered Head VF25. Struck over a 1794 Talbot Allum & Lee Cent with New York. Five points sharper but there is a fine diagonal pin scratch over the 17 in the date. This scratch is old and blends perfectly into the choice glossy medium chocolate brown toning. There are a few other trivial ticks here and there, but they are easily lost in the undertype TAL Cent that remains visible on both sides. Traces of YORK are visible at the top of the cap, and this evidence confirms the TAL attribution as a 1794 with New York. Nicely struck with crisp design details throughout. A nice example of the "Centered Head" variety of 1797. Weight 94.1 grains.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
Ex Willard C. Blaisdell 10/12/1976-Del Bland-Bill Weber (the Blaisdell and Weber collection envelopes are included).

Realized $4,230
