1797 C-1 R2 1 over 1 Variety VG10. Struck over a Talbot Allum & Lee Cent. Glossy chocolate brown with medium steel brown toning on the devices. The surfaces are smooth and the only contact marks are a few faint scratches on the temple. An obvious remnant of the cotton bale from the obverse of the undertype TAL cent shows at the left side of the cap. LDS, Manley state 5.0. The obverse die is now shattered and swollen causing areas of weakness, but the date is strong and the legends are mostly clear. Weight 84.9 grains.
