Lot 44

1795 C-6b R6 No Pole, Thick Planchet VG8. Sharpness VF20 but rather banged up, especially at AMERI. The date and legends are strong except for the first A in AMERICA thanks to a dent on that letter. Mostly glossy chocolate brown and olive with lighter steel brown toning on the devices. The two-tone color accents the designs and adds to the eye appeal. Struck on a cut-down spoiled 1795 S-78 large cent. The bust and top of the 5 from the large cent are clearly visible in the field left of the date, and the position of the 5 relative to the bust is all you need to positively attribute the undertype cent. A neat half cent in spite of the obvious defects. Weight 100.4 grains.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
