This treasure was found in the village Ouwerkerk (old church) county of Zeeland in the Netherlands. The village with about 800 people has a history that goes back to the Roman period.
The village Ouwerker is the oldest village on the former inland Duiveland and in that period it laid at the river Gouwe. In the late thirteenth or fourteenth century there was a war between Flanders and Holland where the Dutch got help from the French. It became a big battle at the front door of Ouwerkerk, right at the place were there was a monastery and a few farmhouses. Near one of the former farmhouses, 200 meters from the place of the old monastery this treasure was found. So most likely this treasure was hidden during this battle and only recently discovered.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
