Maximilian I (1459-1519), was the son of Frederick III, Holy Roman Emperor. After his marriage with Mary of Burgundy (see the previous lot), his political importance was secured by the her wealth, and later in the Italian wars, he played an important role opposing King Louis XII of France from marching to southern Italy. During his reign, the influence of the House of Habsburg was expanded.
