Lot 217

1803 S-248 R4 "Mumps" Obverse with Doubled Fraction Bar PCGS graded XF40. Very attractive glossy medium chocolate brown. Virtually flawless except for a pair of light pin scratches (one tiny, one longer) meandering from the dentils into the field before the nose. Sharply struck EDS but not quite the earliest, Breen state I late. The reverse is uncracked but there is a hint of swelling off the dentil tips before the upper edge of the bust. The "Mumps" break at the throat is bold and the doubled fraction bar feature is sharp. Our grade is VF30. The attribution and "Sm Date, Sm Frac" features are noted on the PCGS label. A second very nice example of this tough variety.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.

Realized $1,763
