Lot 17

1793 C-2 R3 Liberty Cap, Head Left F12. Rotated Reverse. Slightly sharper but covered with uniform microscopic granularity on all but the highpoints of the devices. The faint roughness is visible only with the aid of a glass. The toning is an attractive and rather glossy dark chocolate brown with lighter chocolate toning on the highpoints. No verdigris, and the only marks are a tiny planchet crease at the rim right of the Y in LIBERTY and barely visible planchet flakes over the first A and ER in AMERICA, all as struck. The date and legends are complete and clear. This piece offers excellent eye appeal for the grade in spite of the underlying faint roughness. Struck with the reverse rotated 45 degrees CW relative to the normal head-to-foot die orientation. Weight 108.8 grains.
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.
Ex Ken Goldman 8/20/1983.
