Lot 1112

1844. PCGS graded Proof 64. CAC Approved. Lovely rainbow toning with rich blue and tawny-gold spanning both sides. Boldly struck as expected and highly reflective with examined under a light. For identificaiton there is a minor toning speck below the L of HALF. This is one of the finer examples certified of this extremely limited proof striking. Perhaps ten are known today that have survived the generations since 1844. This is one of the finest and certainly one of the most attractive for the toning and reflective surfaces. All proof coinage from before 1856 is rare, and this is a prime example of the early Mint's efforts at creating these important coins of record. Only 15 struck. Pop 2; 2 finer in 66. (PCGS # 4420) .
Estimated Value $12,000 - 13,000.

Realized $16,450
