Lot 853

1853 N-31 R4+ VF35. Ten points sharper but recolored glossy steel brown and light chocolate and hints of lighter reddish brown toning on some of the highpoints. Nice eye appeal in spite of the retoning. A tiny rim nick just right of star 7 is the only notable mark. MDS, die state b. The die lines from the dentils to the top of RI in AMERICA are dull but still visible and the fields outside the wreath are slightly rough from die erosion. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU58BN (NGC label #3313373-010 included, and it shows the attribution).
Estimated Value $100-UP.
Ex Gold Country Coin Exchange 10/1996-Robert E. Vail, Superior 9/7/1997:851-unknown-Heritage Auction #1156:7282-Rod Burress-Doug Durasoff (both lot tickets included).
