Lot 725

1849 N-2 R1 MS63. Very attractive lustrous bluish light steel brown and olive. Generous traces of mellowed mint red show on the obverse and mint color covers at least 20% of the reverse. The only marks are a few microscopic, very light nicks in the field off the chin and a subtle spot of slightly darker toning under the N in ONE. The fields are covered with satiny mint frost and this cent offers great eye appeal. E-MDS, die state i, with obvious swelling and crumbling on the reverse. Crumbling covers the top of berry 4 (the one left of the O in ONE) but it has not formed between leaves 12 & 14 (the leaves under AT in STATES). Tied for CC#5 honors in the Grellman census where the finest grades only slightly better at MS64. Comes with the fancy collection pillbox from Dr. French.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
