Lot 494

1828 N-11 R2 EF45+. Frosty medium chocolate brown and steel. Satiny mint luster covers the protected areas on both sides and this cent offers outstanding eye appeal. Very close to AU50. The only defect is a dull, shallow rim nick at star 13. LDS. Die wear and lapping have removed all traces of the stray S right of the D in UNITED and the similarly misplaced O right of the second S in STATES. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU58 (NGC label #308013-019 included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance).
Estimated Value $600-UP.
Ex George Ramont 5/13/1981-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/2006:19903-Daniel W. Holmes, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 5/30/2010:273 (lot ticket and Holmes collection envelope included).

Realized $676
