Lot 37

1788 Connecticut Miller 4.1-K Rarity-5 VG10. Mailed Bust Right. Struck over a 1785 Nova Constellatio Crosby 4-D variety. Sharpness VF20 but much of the planchet displays minor roughness and there is a bend at the rim over the I in AUCTORI. Slightly glossy dark olive brown with lighter brown toning on the devices. The dates of the Connecticut (1788) and of the Nova Constellatio (1785) are complete and clear, and "NOVA" also shows clearly off the Mailed Bust. This variety is often found with traces of Nova Constellatio undertype, but seldom do you find one with both dates clearly visible and enough undertype remaining to allow a positive attribution of the host coin. Listed on page 62 in the "Redbook." Weight 103.5 grains.
Estimated Value $100-UP.

Realized $294
