Lot 294

1796 S-86 R5 Liberty Cap VG7. Several points sharper on the obverse, slightly weaker on the reverse (as usual). The surfaces are decent but there are traces of microscopic roughness on both sides and a shallow pit on the throat. The notable contact marks are a few short scratches in the field before the chin and neck plus a rim bruise over AT in STATES. Mostly glossy medium chocolate brown and steel. The date is clear and the legends are complete except for weakness at UNITED and CENT. MDS, Breen state I, before crumbling forms close before the lips.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
Ex 2007 EAC Sale, McCawley & Grellman Auctions 4/28/2007:168-Rod Burress (lot ticket included).
