Lot 1898

1911-D. NGC graded AU-58. The deep honey-gold surfaces of this key date Indian quarter eagle display only the lightest wear while lively luster engages the recessed areas of Pratt's unique incused design type. This specimen features the Strong D mintmark which is clearly visible to the unaided eye. A highly collectable date in an equally collectible grade. The 1911-D is easily the rarest of all 20th century quarter eagles of either design type, and it is the only quarter eagle issued after 1885 with a four-figure value in the VF column of the Red Book. (PCGS # 7943) .
Estimated Value $3,800 - 4,000.
