Lot 1283

1871. PCGS graded MS-65. Sharply struck and highly lustrous, this frosty-white example is sure to be of strong interest to collectors of Seated Liberty coinage. The business strike 1871 is a scarcer Motto issue with just 118,200 pieces produced. Mint State survivors are very scarce, and true Gems are virtually non-existent. Many coins of this issue are believed to have been melted to provide bullion for the new weight Arrows coinage of 1873-1874 prior to their release from the Mint. Pop 3; 2 finer, 1 in 67+, 1 in 68 (PCGS # 5478) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
