Lot 1272

1859. NGC graded Proof 65. Lovely toning overlays both sides, each with a different appearance. The obverse is layered in an interesting combination of antique-gold and reddish-rose iridescence. On the reverse, we note more pronounced color with turquoise-blue and pastel-pink shades present. The mirrored finish remains vibrant despite the extensive nature of the toning, and a full strike is present in all areas -- even the stars and Liberty's head. This is a much scarcer date than a mintage of 800 pieces might indicate as many proof 1859 quarters are presumed to have been melted in the Mint when they were not purchased by the end of the year. Pop 21; 19 finer, 15 in 66, 3 in 67, 1 in 67 Star .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,250.
