Lot 1053

1912-D. PCGS graded MS-65 Red. Uncommonly well preserved for this scarce Denver Mint issue, both sides retain full mint bloom in shimmering fiery-red color. The coin is sharply struck on the obverse and reverse featuring sharp detailing on Lincoln's hair and the wheat ears. There are no grade-limiting blemishes, only explosive mint luster and color. For accuracy, a couple of microscopic flyspecks are seen on the reverse.

A semi-key issue in the Lincoln Cent series, the 1912-D has a relatively low mintage of just over 10.4 million pieces. Examples are scarce at all levels of preservation; in the finer circulated and Mint State grades they are nothing short of rare. Uncirculated survivors are frequently beleaguered by varying degrees of incompleteness due to die wear, so sharply defined examples are always in demand among leading Lincoln cent collectors. Pop 103; 23 finer, 5 in 65+, 18 in 66 (PCGS # 2455) .
Estimated Value $1,900 - 2,000.
