Lot 1022

1890's, 9¢ encased postage, the "Feuchtwanger" type. HB-UNL, EP-95a. Not exactly an encased postage stamps, since it was not manufactured by Scovill under Gault's patent. Also, even called the "Feuchtwanger" type, there's no direct connection between this piece and Dr. Feuchtwanger. The name simply comes from the design on the reverse depicting an eagle and a snake vignette on the reverse that looks like the 1837 hard time tokens. These issues are believed to be produced around the early 1890's for the collector market. The stamps are in VF conditions, while the case is in beautiful EF with old time reddish-violet toning.
Estimated Value $450 - 500.

Realized $494
