Hanson, Howard (1896-1981) American composer, conductor, educator, music theorist, and champion of American classical music. As director for 40 years of the Eastman School of Music, he built a high-quality school and provided opportunities for commissioning and performing American music. He won a Pulitzer Prize in 1944 for his Symphony No. 4. Autograph musical quotation inscribed and signed, one page, 4" x 6", n.p., n.d. From his "Symphony No. 2, 'Romantic'". Hanson has inscribed "With Kindest regards". Light toning. Boldly penned and signed. Fine condition. Accompanied by a clipped newspaper photo of Hanson rehearshing the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
