Thirty-Eight Star Flag Flown in 1876. Navy wool flag, 47½ x 57½", with 38 beige silk stars distributed over the entire field in an 8-7-8-7-8 pattern; there is no canton. The hoist is also beige. The wool has a few holes/tears. On July 1 of 1876, Colorado voted to become the 38th state. Following a proclamation by President Ulysses S. Grant on Aug. 1, 1876, the former territory officially joined the Union.

The flag was purchased in 1982 from a woman in Colorado. According to a typed note from the lady, who was 89 at that time, to the present owner, her husband's grandfather had the flag made when he saw that Colorado was really going to become a state. He carried the flag in a July 4, 1876 parade, and the flag was also flown over the capital during the ceremony on August 1, when Colorado officially became a state.
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,500.
