Pre-Columbian, Panama. Large Earthenware Coclé Vessel, c. 800-1500 AD. Important terracotta bowl, round at the top, with a flat bottom, the sides slanting inward at the top. The outer surface is completely covered with a brownish-red coating, decorated on the upper part by two bands with a stylized crab-claw motif in black and red on a cream background. Height: 11"; Diameter of opening is 15".
