Lot 1396

King Ramses II. Wooden Heart Scaraboid, XIX Dynasty, 1279-1213 BC. A rare and historically important carved wooden scaraboid in the shape representative of the heart glyph, from the reign of Ramses II. The object was carved and stylized from a dense piece of wood. It bears the falcon head of Horus, wearing a lappet wig, and the body is a rounded, inverted conical form. Vertically down the front of the piece is a register of glyphs, including a cartouche bearing the name of the pharoah, Ramses II. On the shoulders there would have been eyelets for suspension, or attachments, and on the head a crown or headdress may have attached to the stub of the dowel. Comes with custom stand. There are two moderate but stable age cracks on the back; nevertheless, the overall condition is exceptional. Height: 4 ½"; Width: 2 ¾".

According to the book of Exodus in the Torah, Ramses II was the pharaoh during the time of Moses and the Israelites departure from Egypt to the land of Canaan.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
