Lot 1388

Wooden Funerary Boat, attributed to the Middle Kingdom, ca. 2133- 1797 BC. This funerary boat model has the prow with the head of the god of mummification, Anubis, and a canopy. Under the canopy, there are two kneeling rowers, missing their oars, and presumably the deceased seated on a thrown. The three figures are painted red and are wearing short black wigs and white tunics. The boat is white with stripes of red and black paint on the side of boat, red stripes on poles of canopy, and the top of canopy is painted with red and orange stripes. Posts have been repainted and glued. Figures appear to be of the time period but may not be original to this particular boat. No repainting to the canopy and minor repainting to bottom part. A remarkable funerary boat in amazing condition. Height: 8 ¾"; Length: 13"; Width: 5 ¾".
