Near Eastern. Golden Calf Suckling Mother, 22 Kt Gold, Achaemenid Style, ca. 600-500 BC. This piece is an exquisite masterpiece. It is of unknown origin, nevertheless, it perfectly embodies the Achaemenid style. The artistic quality of this piece is incredible with its depiction of the mother cow is so precise and her segmented horns and ornate collar are eye catching. The calf kneels under the mother with mouth wide to feed. The work of art is intact and free of repairs. Height: 1 ¾"; Length: 2"; Width: ¾". Weight: 36 gm.
