Lucanian. Red Figure Bell Krater, ca. 450-325 BC. Laureate nude Dionysus facing right, holding thyrsus behind in right hand; cloth draped over left shoulder and arm. He faces a seated female figure (Cybele?) facing left, dressed in a pelpos and wearing a necklace and two bracelets on each arm; in her right hand, tympanum, and her in left hand, thyrsus. Reverse: Two young males, dressed in togas; left one viewed from behind holding out a small object; right one seen from front holding staff. Close inspection under black light reveals minor museum restoration. Outstanding condition, very fresh and beautiful. Height: 9.7" (23.8 cm). Diameter: 10.8" (27.5 cm).
