S.S. Stewart Vintage Banjo 1895-1898. Vintage original Samuel Swaim Stewart (Philadelphia 1855-1898) banjo. Stewart became not only one of the largest makers of premium banjos in the country but its leading promoter in music at the turn of the century. Recently re-strung by McCabe Guitar Shop, this "Presentation" banjo dates from the mid-1890's, and boasts an 11" head, 24" neck of beautiful cherry, ebony and intricately designed mother-of-pearl inlays. The pot of the banjo reveals beautiful marquetry. Some replacement pieces necessary through the decades given its 110 years, otherwise in good to very good condition. Comes in late 1960s era, imitation alligator case. From the estate of Dann Cahn, editor of over 28 episodes of "The Beverly Hillbillies" where family members were told this instrument contributed significantly to an early recording of "The Legend of Jed Clampett".
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,500.
From the Dann Cahn Collection.
