Lot 1013

Huntington, Collis Potter (1821-1900) Railroad magnate. Started life as a peddler, became involved with Leland Stanford, Charles Crocker, and Mark Hopkins (called "The Big Four"). They financed a survey for the transcontinental railroad route and won control. The Central Pacific was completed to a junction with the Union Pacific in 1869. Further involvement in other railroads led to the Southern Pacific. Stock certificate signed ("C. P. Huntington"), One Hundred Shares, issued to Huntington, Newport News and Mississippi Valley Company, No.: B423, 26 September 1889, one page, 15½" x 11½". Highly decorative dollar-green certificate. Fine condition.
