Lot 1000

Prokofieff, Sergei (1891-1953) Russian composer, pianist, and conductor; one of the major composers of the 20th century. Autograph musical quotation signed, one page, 3½ x 8¼", n.p., 1935. Prokofieff identifies the quotation as being from "Chose en soi / op. 45"; it was composed in 1928. A couple of tiny spots, else fine. Boldly penned and signed.

Prokofieff composed across a variety of musical genres, including operas, ballets, chamber works, and piano music. He composed music for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and collaborated with Eisenstein on his epic "Alexander Nevsky." Among his other works are "The Love for Three Oranges," the suite "Lieutenant Kijé," the ballet "Romeo and Juliet," and the ever-popular "Peter and the Wolf," composed for the Central Children's Theatre in Moscow in 1936.
