Lot 1045

1892-O. PCGS graded MS-65. PQ. Well struck and frosty white. Well places to knock the socks off of most contenders for the MS65 grade, and a Silver Dollar with extraordinary mint luster plus snow whiteness. All this is capped off by rolling-thunder fresh white cartwheels on either side. Meticulous strike on every device is what collectors pray for in a 1892-O, which is all too uncommon; this coin -- unlike those others we won't mention that fail to make the "full" grade -- this one is extra crisp, twice as sharp as an average '92-O. For that reason, the numerical condition is exact. Pop 180; 11 finer, 5 in 65+, 5 in 66, 1 in 67. (PCGS # 7216) .

Note on the year 1892: On January 1, 1892, Ellis Island, in the port of New York, became the debarkation point for arriving immigrants who had been flooding to American shores for the better part of 60 years. The flood of immigration would reach its peak shortly after the turn of the 20th century, when the ancestors of many of those reading this coin catalog arrived in the United States.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.
