Lot 64

1799 S-189 R2 PCGS "Genuine" Fine Details, Damage. Glossy medium chocolate brown and steel blending to darker olive brown and steel in protected areas. The planchet is mostly smooth but the left side of the obverse is slightly rough and there are a half dozen small pits on the reverse, mostly at ED in UNITED and ON in ONE. No verdigris or notable signs of contact. MDS, Breen state IV, showing narrow rim cud breaks at F-AM. The date is bold while LIBERTY and the opposing area at the fraction and UNIT are weakly struck. Breen mentions this is a result of axial die misalignment in the intermediate die state (the die faces not in proper parallel alignment). The die chip (shallow lump) under the E in ONE is visible. Not perfect but still decent for a 1799 cent, and the bold date is a big plus. Our grade is F12 sharpness net VG8.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.
Ex Tom Reynolds.
