Lot 430

1895. PCGS graded Proof 67 Cameo. Only 880 minted. Lovely original toning on both sides. The popularity of this Barber design is widespread, being that it is the classic date in the series that shares the identical Proof mintage of the famed 1895 Proof Morgan dollar, 880 pieces. The 1895 is also a prime type candidate for any Type Set buyer. Not all of these coins appear to have been well cared fore, however. Their fate was sealed at the beginning due to their being few means of preserving them without injury other than for the thin tissue paper in which the Mint wrapped them before posting the sets to its customers. Deep pleasing spot-light toning adorns the peripheral regions, while the fully frosted devices have a silvery tint where the color failed to intrude. Noticeable reflectivity in the fields allows the cameo contrast to be present on both sides. Pop 5; 7 finer, 2 in 67+, 5 in 68 (PCGS # 85681) .
Estimated Value $5,000 - 5,500.

Realized $6,169
