Lot 1446

1936-P,D,S Texas Half Dollar Set. Grade include: 1936-P, NGC MS-66, CAC Approved; 1936-D, PCGS MS-66; 1936-S, NGC MS-66. Struck on the occasion of the state's 100th anniversary celebrations held in Dallas. The obverse eagle is superimposed on a five-pointed star representing Texas as the Lone Star State. The reverse uses a winged Liberty with various evens and persons important in Texas history incorporated into the design. One feature of the coin that came in for criticism was the "vulture-like" eagle; no one, it seems, had noticed (except possibly Coppini himself and Breen who reports on it) that the bird alludes to the Mexican national emblem and thus would have represented Texas's old Mexican origin. Lot of 3 coins.
Estimated Value $750 - 800.
