Lot 5027

1837 Liberty Seated Half Dime. No stars, large date. NGC graded MS-66. One of the highest graded examples of this scarce type coin. NGC has only awarded the MS-66 grade to 36 coins, with 12 graded higher by that service. This coin is untoned, with satiny white luster and excellent fields. Note that sharpness in the strike, with full details on the upper devices. All the digits in the date show recutting low. The no stars design only lasted a bit over a year, and stars were soon added in early 1838 on all half dime dies, except for a small issue from New Orleans, which retained the no stars obverse theme.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 3,000.

Realized $2,760
