Lot 2568

KY, Covington, 1902, $5.00, Plain Back, The First National Bank and Trust Company of. . Fr-6045. Charter 718. Fr. 598. This second title for the bank came into existence when the institution decided to add a Trust Department in 1926. A barely noticeable bank teller stamp on the face. Very Fine+.

When a bank would change title, they would order new plates from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (B.E.P.) reflecting the title change. Most of the time, the B.E.P. would engrave new plates showing the new title and date of the title change. Since they would be producing this new plate, it would also be customary to change the Treasury officials engraved signatures to the current names of those in office. This note (thus the plate) shows nothing of the norm, as only the corporate title of the intuition has been changed. This is a 1926 plate with the 1904 date and Treasury officials.
Estimated Value $100 - 200.

Realized $190
