Fr. 29, 1880, $1.00 United States Note. . Fr-29. An extraordinary display, professionally framed with archival materials. The telegram is from the Treasury Department and best explains this lot.
"Washington, D.C., Jan 26, 1882.

To W.P. Tilant Esq
Deputy Register
The first U.S. legal tender note printed with signature of Hon. B.K. Bruce as Register of Treasury was one dollar note number nineteen million nine hundred sixty four thousand and one (19964001). There was three additional notes on the same sheet printed at the same time numbered respectfully 19964002, 19964003 and 19964004. Will you please ask Register Bruce to secure one of those and hold it for me. They are in the reserve vault U.S. Treasury.

Along with the telegram there is a note from the Assistant Register, Titcomb.
"This $1= Note is one of the four on the first sheet issued bearing the name of B.K. Bruce as Register.
W.P. Titcomb, Asst. Register
March 1882."
The note appears to be Choice Uncirculated, but without removing it from the display we are unable to ascertain its true grade.
