Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 8

Lot 1632

1862 Liberty Seated Quarter Dollar. ANACS graded Proof 64. Only 430 struck in proof, this obviously one of the better ones to come down to us today. Essentially untoned, the surfaces show few signs of handling and just the faintest hairlines. The devices are nicely frosted, and the coin is overall very appealing. The Philadelphia Mint had just begun to strike proofs on a regular basis when the Civil War began, don't forget this coin was struck soon after those hostilities began. It has survived better than anyone else the last 139 years! A sparkling near gem proof.
Estimated Value $1,400 - 1,600.
