FLOWN SRB Shock Absorber For Forward Separation Bold. Flown section of metallic honeycomb material shock absorber (6" tall, 6" diameter) for SRB separation from the Shuttle External Tank. When the explosive bolt is fired, the SRB side of the bold explodes back into this shock absorber and the deep indentation in the material is in the shape of the nut on the bolt which explosively impacted the material. The ET side has similar shock absorbers but they are all in the Indian Ocean.
