Lot 194

Ben-Gurion, David. Letter signed ("D. Ben-Gurion") as Defense Minister, on official letterhead with Israel's state seal, in Hebrew, 1p, 7¾ x 6", April 4, 1955. To Prime Minister Moshe Sharett in Jerusalem. In full: "Dear Moshe, Arrogant and contemptuous words were heard being directed against the Chief of Staff, Moshe Dayan. I must point out, I have full confidence in the man, I know and appreciate his individual virtues and attributes and they are: a devotion exceeding all bounds to his demanding duty and obligations and to his responsible assignment in the army, as well as an absolute loyalty to the State's authorized institutions. With great respect, D. Ben-Gurion." Fine; two punch holes at right margin affect nothing.

Ben-Gurion was very protective of his young protégé Moshe Dayan, whom he considered in many ways to be a younger version of himself. When Ben-Gurion returned as prime minister in 1955, conflict between Ben-Gurion and Sharett led to Sharett's resignation as foreign minister.
Estimated Value $800 - 900.
