1856 N-14 R1 Italic 5. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Frosty mint red fading to light steel brown with 75% of the mint color remaining. Essentially flawless, void of any notable spots, stains, or contact marks. The strike is above average for this variety, about as good as they come. The dies were not in perfect axial alignment when striking this variety (the die faces were not parallel) causing weakness on the coronet tip and on the stars above the head. These areas are slightly weak on this example, but the weakness is minimal. MDS, die state b. The short bar under the right side of the 8 is gone and the fields are covered with fine radial flowlines. A far above average example of this variety. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#5 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Population 1; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 406211) .
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
