Lot 881

1853 N-27 R2. NGC graded MS-66 Red & Brown. Beautiful, highly lustrous bluish steel brown and olive with 15% of the obverse and 30% of the reverse showing mint color. The only defects are a bit of crud nestled between the lower right points of star 6, a small carbon spot hidden under the berry left of the O in ONE, and some very shallow low spots on the neck and in the field around CENT (caused by debris on the dies). EDS, die state a. The die lines at the dentil tips under star 2 are sharp. Our grade is MS64+, CC#2 for the variety in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Population 1; none finer at NGC. The only example graded by NGC for the variety.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Kenneth Goodman collection.
