1852 N-22 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Red. CAC Approved. Frosty slightly mellowed mint red starting to fade to light steel brown on the highpoints points of the devices. About 90% of the mint red remains on each side and this cent offers superb eye appeal. The surfaces are covered with satiny mint luster that extends to even the highest points. The best identifying marks are a bit of light greenish olive toning on the rim at star 10 and on the rim over MER. The surfaces are virtually flawless, the only marks being a very shallow planchet void on the chin and traces of a fingerprint under the end of the wreath stem. M-LDS, die state c (Newcomb's old #9). The die lines at the inner curl are nearly gone and the die cracks on the obverse are clear. The reverse is uncracked. This is a remarkable cent, one of the most impressive late date cents seen by Grellman, regardless of the die variety. Our grade is MS66, tied for CC#3 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution and Ralls provenance are shown on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 65. (PCGS # 147286) .
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
