1840 N-6 R1 Repunched 40. NGC graded MS-66 Brown. CAC Approved. Highly lustrous frosty light bluish steel brown and olive with faded mint red covering the protected areas on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and the eye appeal of this cent is exceptional. The devices are sharply impressed but the stars do not show radial lines, which is typical for the die variety. The only marks are a tiny planchet flake in the field off the tip of the nose (as struck), and a very light horizontal nick under the bust tip. M-LDS, die state c. The repunching on the 40 remains visible but the small point to the left from star 13 is gone. A very impressive cent. Our grade is MS64+, close to MS65, CC#4 in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Population 5; none finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
