Lot 715

1818 N-10 R1. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Lustrous frosty mint red fading to light steel brown on the highpoints, about 75% of the original mint color remaining. A glass reveals some microscopic ticks on the portrait and a few tiny spots of darker toning (not carbon) on both sides, but overall this is a very impressive cent. The best identifying mark is a small spot of darker toning on a dentil off the left point of star 6. M-LDS with the usual die cracks extending through the date and all the stars. Most likely from the Randall Hoard of mint state cents, but this piece is certainly one of the finest known from that group. Our grade is MS63+, very close to MS64. The attribution is noted on the NGC label. Population 1; none finer at NGC.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
From the Kenneth Goodman collection.

Realized $2,585
