Lot 610

1800 S-202 R4+ VF20. Sharpness VF35 but the field before the portrait was abraded to remove some scratches, then retoned dark olive and steel. The remainder of the planchet is smooth and the toning is a choice glossy chocolate brown. Traces of mint frost show in protected areas on the reverse. LDS, Breen state VI. The die failure at the lower curls is severe but not quite terminal, and strong swelling affects much of the legend on the upper half of the reverse. Called VF30 net VF20 and tied for CC#7 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VG10 and tied for CC#12, his photo #24006.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Royal Feltner-Dr. Dane B. Nielsen-Dr. Philip W. Ralls.

Realized $1,175
