Lot 587

1798 S-186 R2 Style II Hair, Small 8 VF35. Ten points sharper but there are a few light rim bruises on each side of an otherwise beautiful cent. The notable ones are off the lower end of the hair ribbon, over the I in LIBERTY, and at ER in AMERICA. Choice glossy medium chocolate brown with steel brown toning on the highpoints and frosty luster in protected areas. M-LDS, Breen state VII. A cud break reaches both 0's in the denominator. A beautiful cent and a neat die state, but the rim bruises are a distraction. The reverse of this piece is plated in Early American Cents to illustrate the late state of Reverse B of 1799. Called EF40 net VF35 and tied for CC#6 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF35 and tied for CC#6 as well, his photo #24117. Comes with an old provenance.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
